The indirect questions are polite questions. Indirect questions are direct questions introduced by a polite phrase like ‘Could you tell me’, ‘I wonder’, ‘Do you happen to know’, etc.
In sum:
Make indirect questions by putting a polite phrase before the direction question.
After the polite phrase, put the direct question as a sentence, i.e. without the modal verb.

For example:
Could you tell me what English books you have read?
I wonder if you are aware of the complexity of your exam?
Do you happen to know if there is a supermarket near here?
